SUMMARY:AI\, Disinformation\, & Democracy
DESCRIPTION:With the rise of deepfake technology and its use in disinformation campaigns\, the need for proactive measures to counter its harms has never been more urgent. The mass adoption of Generative AI has introduced unprecedented risks as conspiracy theories and lies have spread like wildfire online. Researchers have found that women on average receive more abuse on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter (X) than male politicians. This is a disturbing statistic given the historic nature of the upcoming US presidential election with Kamala Harris\, the first Black woman and Asian American to lead a major party’s presidential ticket. We have invited tech and democracy activist\, Yael Eisenstat to discuss solutions for countering the harmful effects of social media\, AI-powered algorithms\, and Generative AI on our political discourse and democracy. Join us for this timely and highly relevant discussion on Thursday\, October 31st at 11a ET.
