A Fireside Chat with Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brooklyn, New York, March 22, 2024
Women in AI Ethics™ is proud to announce a pivotal event for Women’s History Month, focusing on the critical intersection of technology, democracy, and gender equity. On March 26, 2024, join us at the Info Commons Lab in Brooklyn Public Library for an enlightening fireside chat with the Honorable Yvette D. Clarke, Member of Congress.
The event will shine a spotlight on Rep. Clarke’s groundbreaking legislative efforts to address the growing risks of AI-generated threats, particularly for women and democratic processes. With the rise of deepfake technology and disinformation campaigns, the urgent need for proactive measures has never been more apparent.
In her latest bill, Congresswoman Clarke proposes compelling solutions to safeguard against AI-generated content manipulation, including the implementation of content provenance such as digital watermarking on AI-generated videos and images. Moreover, the bill aims to empower victims of image abuse by providing avenues for recourse in the face of malicious digital exploitation.
“2024 is an historic year for democracies as nations representing nearly half of the world’s population will hold elections,” says Mia Shah-Dand, founder of Women in AI Ethics. “The mass adoption of Generative AI has introduced unprecedented challenges, with deepfake technology being weaponized against women at an alarming rate. It is imperative that we take decisive action to protect the integrity of our democratic processes and ensure the safety and dignity of all individuals, especially women.”
The fireside chat will dive into the multifaceted dimensions of this pressing issue, exploring not only the legislative landscape but also the urgent need for AI literacy programs to empower communities and combat misinformation effectively.
